Comics I picked up on thursday 13/7/10

Daredevil #509: To many, Shadowland has had a bad start and I do partially agree. We all knew what the ending would be to the first issue so it was an overall pointless issue. In the last year though I did start reading the Daredevil series starting with the Bendis Run and have enjoyed it. This issue subtly weaves around the events of shadowland and predominantly focuses on the main cast of the series who aren't Matt, and by this I mean Dakota, Foggy and the ever continually returning character Elektra. You know stuff is serious if Elektra returns. There's also a return of a villain who has potential if done right.

DMZ #56: This, in my opinion, was a fantastic issue. Of recent, there has been a big turning point in the war and the DMZ, so this issue was in the middle of 5 one off stories looking at people living there at the moment. The great thing is this issue is focused on Wilson, the Chinatown crime lord. It's beautiful and tragic, a story told from an old man reminiscing about when he was young and what these events really mean for him. Fantastic.

Justice League Generation Lost #7: Even though I chose to stop buying Brightest Day, I still peak into them to see what's going on. For once it got its act together and also linked into GL. The team are on the offensive again, this time breaking into checkmate. It has a sense of humour, especially to do with rocket red. Overall a decent issue but feels like it is linking into something else.

The Walking Dead #76: I know I always say this series is fantastic and may stop blogging about it because it is obviously becoming repetitive. It was a good issue. As usual.

Comics I picked up on thursday 9/8/10 (Been on a holiday)

Avengers 2 #6: And so this finishes and thus I don't care. It's pretty been a Hollywood action blockbuster throughout which is fun but just not worth buying. The British guy was irritating, The Punisher looked cool but from what I remember he didn't DO much, War Machine was pretty pointless. The last two issues have been silly because there were two ghost riders with the only different being flame colour and clothes being slightly redder in one person then the other. The devil part was kind of interesting but still felt like something that will probably be abandoned. what annoys me more than anything is why there is no aftermath. they killed the VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. then nothing.

The Boys #45: Now THIS series has never disappointed. The shit hit the fan with a secret that has bubbling away from the early issues. Homelander is finally back in play with his idea from herogasm which has exciting prospects. I don't know what to say other than this series has always been an enjoyment for me. Yes, the humour aspect of the comic has changed and maybe even reduced. I used to think of this series as a different type of preacher but it's
developed more serious tones.

Captain America #608: spy fun. I think they're surprises coming up that are a bit obvious but they aren't revealing them. The break down of Bucky Caps life is an interesting route. They is also a random betrayal in play which is surprising but they will probably explain is in time. Also the nomad story was better than usual although I want it to end so she can be in the young allies and the comic can have more cap.

Hellboy The storm #2: This was another enjoyable issue. An interesting bit of flashback, some lobster Johnson even. The fight is decent and the behind the scenes scheming interesting and contributes to the folklore aspect that always defines the essence of Hellboy. Overall enjoyable

Irredeemable #16: This has definitely been an overall improvement on the series as of recent. The ending was an intriguing one which says a lot considering the last 6 issues have been nothing of interest. The early issues of this series had a death list which they got rid of because nobody was dying due to the "WRATH OF THE PLUTONIUM" and the first death in a long while was last issue. This was an aftermath issue in truth but this issue starts paving story threads that could take this series in a direction that could finally give this series a boost of decent story.

Secret six #24: Wow this was random. I don't know if it's an elseworld or something that was spposed to happen in a past life but it's secret six and still fun. The last issue was a one off so I hope next issue starts getting back into some longer stories even though this has been a nice break. plus deadshot does something BADASS!!!

Secret Warriors #18: I'm not enjoying this story. I like the raid and the other caterpillar group. What they did was fun and that part of the story. The trail with the U.N. and the flashback to the howling commandos not so much. They're not bad but just not that interesting.

Shadowland #2: It's fun and the development of the story is better than the last issue. Little mysterious characters are dropping in which have my curiousness tweaked. Also it has an interesting cast of the obvious Daredevil associated and others as well.

S.H.I.E.L.D #3: Firstly, let me make the point that I stopped buying this, instead, my brother started so score. The last issue did irritate me but this issue was at the very least more intriguing. The several timelines and explanation of what S.H.I.E.L.D. does is fun, it even shows how far they will go for knowledge and their ideals.

Supergod #4: I have been waiting for this too long. so stuff is coming to an end in Ellis' interesting take on what if our need for belief went too far and it is definitely going out with a bang, not that the last few issues with the visuals of where are narrator isn't in anyway evidence of the bang already.

Comics I picked up on thursday 28/7/10

Batman: The Widening Gyre #6: Wow. This has been a series which has taken a while to finish, the first 3 isses went somewhat smoothly but from then there were gaps which could span 6 weeks or more. I thought this would kill the ending of this story but hey, the ending still was a slap in the face in a good way. I think this last issue has it's own standalone charm. It does link pack to previous batman stories by Kevin Smith but even back to great tales like batman: Year 1. This has been a bizarre story which was going so well that it seemed almost to good to be true and would come crashing down. Just read the ending.

Justice League: Generation Lost #7: It's an interesting one and if this series does things like this once in a while, I will continue to read this series. The break off to show the reasons behind his hunt for Lord. Also, reading the original JLI run makes me more fond of this series. It's a decent one which is one off but has potential to be explored.

Thor #612: Right, I haven't read thor since the start of the strazynski run as I was budgeting comics and I have been recommended by many sources to do so. I also should have read the start of this story or maybe I did but wasn't really concentrating as this is a comic my brother bought. So Thor wants to go to hell and because of this is brings him into contact with the usual thor/underworld characters that even I know. this is part 2 so would seriously go back to part 1, or the start of siege or dark reign or pretty much to the start of the strazynski run. seriously.

Uncanny X-Men #: Very happy, or maybe I just thought it was at the time. I haven't got it around me at the moment but it was a story ultimately of hope with some interesting links to other series I'm reading at the moment (see young avengers: children's crusade).

Wolverine, Weapon X #15: And with this issue, I stop. I got into it, it had a decent start with Wolvie in the madhouse but the next story was long and pointless. pretty much the conclusion to the "terminator story" which I honestly didn't care about. had an all star cast and ended it alright but the truth is, I started this series on a whim and when money gets tight, It's going to get the cut.
